Trend forecasting agency Scarlet Opus will be helping visitors to this year’s new show for retailers who sell small kitchen and domestic appliances, Exclusively Electrical, by identifying products they feel are good examples of forthcoming trends. “Mid-way through the year is a good time for retailers to take a fresh look at their stores, start thinking ahead to the busy Christmas sales period and get their eye in on what trends will be dominating the coming seasons,” says show director Simon Boyd.

The latest BRC-KPMG RETAIL SALES MONITOR for January 2015 shows that UK retail sales increased by 0.2%, on a like-for-like basis from January 2014, when they had increased 3.9% on the preceding year. On a total basis, sales were up 1.6%, against a 5.4% rise in January 2014 and above the 12-month average of 1.4%.  Adjusted for the BRC-Nielsen Shop Price Index deflation, total growth was 2.9%.  The Non-Food performance was helped by the continuation of end-of-season sales into January.

UK retail sales grew 2.2% during November, rising 0.9% on a like-for-like basis, according to the latest British Retail Consortium-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor.  Household appliances was the best performing category, followed by furniture and home. Over the last three months, food showed a decline of 1.2%. Even though November was the seventh consecutive month of decline, there was an improvement over the three months to October. Online sales of non-food products grew 12% in November, versus a year earlier, when it had grown 16%.
SDAs, tumble-dryers and smart TVs boosted the electrical consumer goods market in western Europe, reported GfK. The analyst reported that the overall market in western Europe grew by four per cent year on year to €47.3 billion (£37.7bn) in the quarter to September.
The very first Exclusively Electrical trade show will take place on 9 and 10 June 2015 at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London. Designed specifically for those who buy small domestic appliances it will run alongside the long-established Exclusively Housewares show, and will feature a truly outstanding line up of the industry’s leading coffee, kitchen, cooking, cleaning and ironing appliance brands and suppliers.
This seminar will explore key design trends for the season. It will run at 10am on Wednesday, 11 June in the Presentation Room at Exclusively Housewares, which can be found on the Gallery level, next to the show press office.  The seminar is free of charge to all EH show visitors and exhibitors. Victoria Redshaw, lead futurist at Scarlet Opus, will explain the factors driving the trend’s emergence and discuss their translation into the key colours, patterns, materials, shapes, and styles for interiors and interior products.
